So, 2 big goose eggs in a row! What's the MATTER with me?!?!?! I can't tell if it's coincidental that my desire to run fizzled this week right after I watched Spirit of the Marathon or if I would've had a bad week anyway. It was a pretty decent movie - not what I was expecting, though. I guess I was hoping for more educational, physiological info instead of just ... the spirit of people who run marathons. In the film, you follow 6 people as they prepare for the Chicago marathon. Two of them are world class, 2 are repeat marathoners (one in his 70's), and 2 first timers. I will say it was pretty awe inspiring to see the mass of humanity (37,000) at the starting line of the marathon! The cumulative hours of preparation for that many people is staggering! But, for some reason, it didn't inspire me to want to run a marathon ... or run at all. Hmph.

Anyway, there's my weak excuse with no real substance. BUT, I do know ... next week will be better!!!

I think running is one of those things you just have to DO, not read about it, not watch movies about it. Lots of times I don't really get psyched for the run until I've been on it a while. Running makes you a better runner, and I also think it makes you want to run more.

Now, of course, I am missing days because of my knee, but completely disregard me! Keep it up!

We all go through those times when motivation is lacking. Get back out there and it will get better!! You have a great attitude!

Laura, the real question for me? Would you run if there were no races? The answer for me would be yes, I ran ten years without running a race, 40 to 50 miles a week. I don't run for the races, I run cause I love to run. The races are just icing on the cake, a time to get together and talkie, talkie. So, I am not surprised the film did not motivate you to run a marathon or run at all. The real value of running is how if makes us feel about ourselves, life and others.

Stay Cool, pretty darn insightful of you, B of BS Rools out

Well said Brent. And, hey, give yourself a break! Some times your mind needs a break just as badly as your body. I have no doubt you will find a great run in the near future and have your umph back.

I vote you come here to Los Lunas and run in the 5K with Kristina on March 22nd.

I think it's totally normal to need a little break. I do love running and am really missing it.

Thanks, everyone, for your support!!! It was TONS more helpful to hear from my fellow bloggers than to watch a marathon movie!!! I wasn't so worried that I hadn't run in 2 days - because that has happened before, believe me! - but I was worried how complacent I was about it. It was like I had stopped caring, for some reason. But, I've found my desire again thanks to all of you!!!!

Brent, I keep trying to change the mental picture I have of myself ... and see myself as a runner. I know that whatever I view myself as - I will be. And I want to be a runner for the joy of running. I'm not sure if races motivate me as much as this blog actually does. But I'd love to be able to run for 10 years without any support like you did. What a true runner you are!!!
