My hip has been really hurting after my last run. It's actually been hurting since I first starting exercising 2 weeks ago, but it got much worse when I started running more. I called my brother-in-law, James, and he recommended to take it easy, get good shoes, and go to the chiropractor. So, I went on the elliptical this morning for half an hour (thus, I estimated about a mile's worth of running). My hip is feeling better today. I have an appt on Friday for a chiropractic adjustment; it actually makes sense that my hip is out of alignment. All during my last trimester, I had to go to the chiropractor all the time because my tailbone and low back were causing me major problems. I don't want to chicken out on my 5K race, but I also don't want to get an injury that will make it impossible to run at all. Ugh.

Sorry about your hip! Heber and I both have had similar issues. I notice it most after a fast run--usually the morning after. Gluteus medius may be the culprit, at least for me. Heber gave me some exercises to work on. Don't tell him but I never did them. (Are you there, Heber?) Usually, I just try to run slower until it goes away. The importance of running slowly when you first start can not be overstated! Run slow! Running downhill is also harder on bones, joints, & ligagments than running uphill.

Geez, 30 min. on the elliptical is way more than 1 mile. At least 2, maybe even 2.5. Keep up the good work and don't overdo it! : ) Love ya, sis.

P.s. Today is Nathan's b-day!

Sorry to hear about the hip, I have a chronic hip pain that I'm 99% sure is bursitis. But I'd love to hear how or what the chiropractor has to day about yours. Where does it seem to bother you? I used to ice mine a lot, but it seems to be that heat helps more. Weird I know but what ever works is good for me.

Thanks for the sympathy, Libby and Michelle!! I didn't know you (Lybi) and Heber both had a hip problem. I don't think running slower will help the hip on its own because I wasn't even running for the first week and it was hurting. It doesn't hurt while I run/walk, but it hurts later on in the day. When I get up from sitting down or laying down, then I feel like I'm going to falll because it's so intense. But after a few steps, it relaxes. Weird, huh?

And I'm amazed that you run so well, Michelle, considering chronic hip pain!!!! That's dedication!

Welcome to the blog. I had a very similar hip problem a few weeks ago. I found out that walking fast on it was worse than a very slow jog. Maybe I was trying to walk with too long a stride. Still hurts occasionally but much less.
